A note from our principal

Fáilte Romhaibh ar ais

A thuismitheoirí, ar son foireann na scoile Ag Foghlaim le Chéile Maigh Nuad, ba mhaith liom fáilte mhór ar ais a chur roimh gach éinne. Ta súil agam gur bhain sibh taitneamh as na laethanta saoire agus go bhfuil sibh go léir réidh chun oibriú linn sa scoil i mbliana

Dear Parents,Welcome back to you all. We trust that you, like us, have enjoyed the summer break and are looking forward to the new school year. Our pupils arrived back and are enthusiastic and excited to see their classmates again. They are eager to work and have settled well into their new class grades.

This year is a milestone year for us all, as the building of our permanent school will commence in this school term. As soon as we have a confirmed starting date we will let you know. There will undoubtedly be some disruption to our present drop-off area, but whatever temporary arrangement is put in place will be safe to use and with everyone’s co-operation it will function efficiently. Also in this school year we have enrolled a second Junior Infant class. Elaine and Clare are the class teachers and they are receiving the infant classes on a reduced day initially to facilitate a smooth settling-in. From this year onwards we will enrol 2 Junior Infant classes to eventually make us a 16 mainstream class school. Maynooth Educate Together NS continues to be the school of choice for a large number of parents and demand for places is high. As we operate the Educate Together enrolment criteria of ‘first come-first served’, we ask that all younger siblings are enrolled as soon as possible.

New Staff: We have 3 new teachers appointed in this school year. Thomas Treacy is appointed to a permanent teaching position and he is now teaching 6th class. Naomi Burke is appointed to a 1-year teaching position and she will teach on our Support Team. Mary Doran will job-share with Angela in 4th class. We have also employed 2 new Special Needs Assistants, Sarah McCarthy and Lorraine Flynn. Sarah will work in the Caterpillars class and Lorraine will work in the Junior Infant class. We welcome all of our new staff to Maynooth Educate Together NS. Our support teacher Andrea has left us to take up a job in the west of Ireland. We wish her well in her new teaching position.

Mission:We operate under the patron body Educate Together. Our mission is to provide the best possible education, combining the Irish Primary School curriculum and the Educate Together ethos, which fosters development of children's talents, abilities and personalities. We support children in developing attitudes which will enable them to become open-minded, creative, respectful, responsible and caring members of society.

Our school is managed by the Board of Management according to the ethos of Educate Together. The school is staffed by a dedicated team of teachers and special needs assistants who are committed to providing a broad inclusive education for all of our pupils. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to play an active role in the education of their children. We encourage parents to become active participants in school and classroom activities. We also understand that for many parents, it is difficult to find time to volunteer at the school. Just as important as volunteering is a daily routine of reading to your child, talking about their day and getting them prepared for the next day of school

Communication: Parents and Guardians will receive regular communication from the school. Our school calendar and book lists are posted on our school website, www.maynoothet.ie, along with information for parents and guardians. The website will be updated at regular intervals Email and text messages will regularly be sent from the school via our school database Aladdin. School newsletters containing all of our school news will be sent by email regularly to all parents who have provided us with an email address. Hard copies will be sent home if preferred. Each child has a school diary and this may be used to send messages to and from school. Parents are requested to inform the school Principal and/or the class teacher of any issues that are likely to interfere with the regular schooling of pupils of if for some reason you are have concerns about any aspect of your childs schooling. Please contact Hilary, school secretary to arrange a meeting with your childs teacher if you have any concerns. Parent-teacher meetings will take place in November and as this is a valuable opportunity for feedback on your childs progress, we expect all parents to attend. The Board of Management will issue periodic Community reports, which will be included in the school newsletter. The Board will also issue an Annual Report from the Board of Management  which will be posted on the school website.

Online payments: It is our intention that our school will become a cash-free school in this school year. Parents will be requested to make a number of payments eg school expenses, tours etc. An on-line payment facility will be available for parents to pay these expenses via our school website. Details of the process will be sent to parents early in the school year. We strongly request that all parents make us of the online payments in this school year.

As we commence our second decade, I look forward to working with you all to continue the work of the last 10 years to ensure that Maynooth Educate Together NS continues to be a successful place for your children to grow and learn.

Slán go fóill,

Marie Principal
