2019-2020: Fáilte Romhaibh ar ais

A thuismitheoirí, ar son foireann na scoile Ag Foghlaim le Chéile Maigh Nuad, ba mhaith liom fáilte mhór ar ais a chur roimh gach éinne. Tá súil agam gur bhain sibh taitneamh as na laethanta saoire agus go bhfuil sibh go léir réidh chun oibriú linn sa scoil bliana seo.

Welcome back to Maynooth Educate Together National School to commence yet another school year.  The staff and I are looking forward to teaching your children and working with you in the course of the year.

We start our new school year with a growing school community. We have recruited new and additional staff, we have enrolled two Junior Infant classes and we welcome some newcomers to classes throughout the school.

We also have lost a member of staff to a school in the west of Ireland. Naos Connaughton has taken up the position of Principal of a school in his native Roscommon. We will miss Naos greatly. Naos made a huge contribution to our school, both in the classroom and with the many initiatives he pioneered and was involved in. Naos was popular with staff, parents and pupils. We wish Naos great success in his new teaching position and we thank him for his contribution to our school.

We have also lost Naomi Burke, who was our shared Support teacher. We thank Naomi for her work in the school and we wish her well as she moves on in her teaching career. She has been replaced by Marcella Maher, who is currently teaching First class.

Finally, we have recruited an additional member of staff: Elizabeth Foley will teach on our Support team for this school year. She is shared with two schools in Leixlip also.

We are delighted to welcome Hilary, our school secretary, back to school after a long illness. Also welcome back to Pamela SNA. We wish both well for this school year.

The children are settled back to work now. They have been reacquainted  with friends and have welcomed our new pupils to the school.

Our new school building is nearing completion and we look forward to moving over in the coming weeks. The new building will provide greater space and resources for our growing school population with state-of-the-art technology which all pupils will access.

Please feel free to introduce yourself to your child’s teacher and if you wish to make an appointment to meet with the teacher please contact the school at to arrange a mutually suitable time.  Similarly, if you wish to meet with me at any stage, please contact Hilary and arrange a date and time.

Welcome back newsletter: this newsletter, sent to all staff and families, will familiarise you with all aspects of school life. Please read this newsletter carefully. All newsletters will be emailed to parents and will be posted onto our school website.

Policies: please read all school policies which are posted on our school website. These policies refer to everyday life in the school and must be adhered to.

Enrolment: Maynooth Educate Together NS continues to be the school of choice for a large number of parents and demand for places is high. As we operate the Educate Together enrolment criteria of ‘first come-first served’, we ask that all younger siblings are enrolled as soon as possible.

Mission:We operate under the patron body Educate Together. Our mission is to provide the best possible education, combining the Irish Primary School curriculum and the Educate Together ethos, which fosters development of children's talents, abilities and personalities. We support children in developing attitudes which will enable them to become open-minded, creative, respectful, responsible and caring members of society.

The School Community:Our school is managed by the Board of Management according to the ethos of Educate Together. The school is staffed by a dedicated team of teachers and special needs assistants who are committed to providing a broad inclusive education for all of our pupils. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to play an active role in the education of their children. We encourage parents to become active participants in school and classroom activities. We also understand that for many parents, it is difficult to find time to volunteer at the school. Just as important as volunteering is a daily routine of reading to your child, talking about their day and getting them prepared for the next day of school.

Board of Management: in November of this school year a new Board of Management will be elected to the school. We will be in contact with you in the coming weeks regarding the election process.

Communication: Parents and Guardians will receive regular communication from the school. Our school calendar and book lists are posted on our school website,, along with information for parents and guardians. The website will be updated at regular intervals Email and text messages will regularly be sent from the school via our school database Aladdin. School newsletters containing all of our school news will be sent by email regularly to all parents who have provided us with an email address. Hard copies will be sent home if preferred. Each child has a school diary and this may be used to send messages to and from school. Parents are requested to inform the school Principal and/or the class teacher of any issues that are likely to interfere with the regular schooling of pupils of if for some reason you have concerns about any aspect of your child's schooling. Please contact Hilary, school secretary to arrange a meeting with your childs teacher if you have any concerns. Parent-teacher meetings will take place in November and as this is a valuable opportunity for feedback on your childs progress, we expect all parents to attend. The Board of Management will issue periodic Community reports, which will be included in the school newsletter. The Board will also issue an Annual Report from the Board of Management which will be posted on the school website.

Online payments: As far as is possible  our school will operate as a cash-free school in this school year. Parents will be requested to make a number of payments eg school expenses, tours etc. An on-line payment facility will be available for parents to pay these expenses via our school website. Details of the process will be sent to parents early in the school year. We strongly request that all parents make use of the online payments in this school year.

Parking: As we continue to operate with reduced set-down area whilst the building works are on-going, we will adhere to the arrival and dismissal arrangements as last year. If it is possible for pupils to walk or cycle to school, this will greatly reduce the traffic on site daily.

Nut Allergy Awareness :We currently have children with nut allergies attending our school.  To ensure that children with a nut allergy are protected from an unintentional exposure to nuts we do not permit nuts or nut products in lunch boxes ie nutella, peanut butter, nutty bars etc. If you are in doubt as to the ingredients of a product, please do not include it in the lunchbox. Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this very serious issue.

Slán go fóill,

Marie Principal
