Fifth Class

5th Class are participating in a year-long ‘Postcard Project’. We currently have 53 postcards from around the world. Our next goal is 100 postcards! We have contacted friends and family, near and far and asked them to kindly send us a postcard with some information about their area. The children themselves send us postcards too if they visit other areas throughout the year. Please send any postcards to:

5th Class,

Maynooth Educate Together National School,

Rail Park,

Celbridge Road,

Maynooth,

Co. Kildare.

Thank you!

Multi-cultural week was celebrated from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th April in our school. Each day, 2 children went to each class and taught them how to say Hello, Goodbye and how to count from 1 - 5 in their native language. Well done to Efraim, Noreia and Adrien who taught us Romanian, German and French.

Our class focused on Ireland and India as 2 contrasting countries. We spent a lot of time learning about the 1916 Rising and completed projects on same. Please see a selection of these projects below.

For art, we painted picturesque landscapes of Ireland using postcards as our inspiration. We also created clay postcards of The Rock of Cashel.

A special thank you to Kunal Kohli for a very interesting and informative talk on India and to Bindiya for allowing us to use her beautiful wedding dress as part of our display! Parents were welcomed into the school on Friday to view all of our work.

Another work in progress is our ‘Write a Book’ project. We published our own narrative stories for it and sent them to Kildare Education centre. As part of the project, we judged another set of 5th class books and we are awaiting the results of our own books!

We recorded a radio show called ‘Right Now, Radio 5’. Everyone took part and we recorded a jingle, news, weather, sport, a traffic report, jokes, ads, interviews with the Principal Marie, secretary Hilary and caretaker Martin, a competition and a movie review! We also promoted the radio show by making posters and announcing it on the school intercom.
