Fifth Class

A very warm welcome to all the children and their families to 5th class.

We are looking forward to a busy and productive year ahead!

During Maths Week 2019 (October 12th – 20th), we played Darts to work on number patterns, addition, multiplication and target numbers. We took part in an online maths challenge called ‘Mangahigh’. Eight children from the class earned over 150 points and will receive gold medals from Mangahigh. Comhghairdeas do Conor, Pablo, Alienor, Alex, Ryan, Brian, Kian agus Denis! We also attended a maths workshop called 'Murderous Maths' in the Department of Mathematics at DIT Kevin Street.

For Halloween, we performed a spooky ‘Thriller Dance’ and 'The Visitor' poem for the whole school and at the Spooky Walk at the University in Maynooth.

26th of September was European Day of Languages. Our class created a display on the Learn Together noticeboard including paragraphs written in other languages such as French, German, Gaeilge, Spanish, Lithuanian etc. Children from 5th class visited other classes to share their knowledge.

***Postcard Project Update*** 3rd December 2019

5th class are doing great with their postcard project this year and we have already collected 113 postcards, from places such as Tokyo, Banff, Florida, Barcelona, Taiwan, London, South Africa, Portugal, Holland, Greece, Australia and New Zealand as well as local ones from Celbridge, Bray, Cork, Kerry and Belfast!

Recently we wrote and posted letters to a number of people including children learning English in a class in Japan! Sincere thanks to all families taking part as we're really enjoying learning about places around the world and improving our mapping skills! The project will continue until the end of June!

16th September 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to invite all families to take part in our year-long ‘Postcard Project’. Our aim will be to get as many postcards sent to our class by the end of the school year, from as many countries and destinations around the world as possible. If you have family and friends abroad, or even around Ireland, please ask if they would be willing to send us a postcard from their local area, with a couple of lines about it as well as whom it’s from. If they include a return address, we could send a postcard or letter to them! We will keep track of all the locations on our world map and use graphs to show our progress! It will be exciting to receive post from around the world, learn about different locations and we can also compare different stamps from different countries too.

Postcards can be sent to:

5th Class,

Maynooth Educate Together National School,

Celbridge Road,

Co. Kildare.

Thank you for your co-operation,

Kind Regards,

Noreen and Aimee
